Going to prom is a momentous occasion in most young girls’ lives. It’s an evening of glitz and glamour when most days are filled with t-shirts and jeans.

In this way, everything is about the dress. What color is it? How long is it? What’s it made out of? And most importantly, what’s the style? Let’s face it, not all pink prom dresses are made the same. So let’s figure out what your prom dress style is. Check out the options below.

1. Short and sassy

Prom is seen as a rather formal and buttoned up affair to some, but it doesn’t have to be so boring. You can have more fun with prom by going for a shorter length dress and hitting the dance floor! Because you’ll be showing more leg, it’s smart to opt for a dress top that reaches a bit higher on the chest or covers up a bit more of the arms.

2. Basic and Classy

For the girl who’s no nonsense, this is the dress you’ve been looking for. It’s like a sheath, but classier and sexier. These basic but classy sheath gowns tend to come in one solid color. It gets really fun when you start accessorizing.

3. Flared and fun

Have you always wanted to be a princess? Well, now’s your chance. Choose a gown that flares at the waist, and aim for lots of taffeta. You’ll be twirling and whirling till midnight.

4. Slim and elegant

For a classy look that’s also sexy, try a slimming gown that hugs the body all the way down. Many of these most elegant dresses come in lace with a solid slip beneath, or they show some glitz with sequins or rhinestones. Either way, you’ll be strutting your stuff with the best of them in a gown like this.

5. Bright and Bold

Join the mod squad in a bright and bold gown. Go for bright colors like hot pink, fluorescent yellow or fire engine red. These colors are sure to make you stand out among the crowd.

Finally, don’t forget that whatever style of dress you choose, you’ll have to match your hair, nails, shoes and makeup as well. You might even want to bring a little clutch to hold your phone, lipstick and some oil blotting papers.

The best way to get ready for prom is to first, get your prom dress way in advance and second, spend the whole day getting ready for the evening. This is a fun activity to do with other girlfriends who are also getting ready. Hang our together and make it a girls spa day. Get your nails and hair done, do each other’s makeup and gossip about all the friends and classmates you’ll see dolled up that night.
