If you want to keep your interior from looking too matchy or generic, then mixing up your design style can create some diversity and give your room an intriguing eclectic look. However, you’ll want to avoid mixing in a way that creates a jumbled or incohesive look. Follow these decorating tips to successfully mix different interior styles.

Combine Styles With Color
You can easily bring two styles together harmoniously by keeping them in the same hue. In general, when working with different styles it’s better not to get too crazy with too many colors. It doesn’t just have to be one color though, you can work with a matching color combination as well.

Match The Scale and Shape
A simple way of combining different styles is to select pieces that are of a similar shape and size. Whether you like simple, straight lines or pieces with curved edges, you can find furniture and accent pieces from multiple different interior styles that fall into the same kind of shape and scale. Too many mixed up pieces of varying sizes and shapes will give the impression of a confusing and chaotic space. Keep your eyes happy by allowing your furniture to cooperate with eachother.

Find A Common Design Motif
If you can find a common theme among two different kinds of design styles, then that will definitely help you create a cohesive look. For example, if you love designs that feature birds, or roses, then you can bring styles together if they share that same motif. Perhaps you would like to stick to mostly one type of design style, but just want to break up the monotony a little bit. You can achieve this by selecting some truly unique and one-of-a-kind accent pieces or artwork. This is a great way of showing off your own personal style.
